Happy Birthday Big Daddy

Well the big day was actually yesterday, but we were having too much fun for me to blog. I took the day off work and Big Daddy and I spent the day together which is always a treat! We went out for coffee, went to lunch and played at Dave & Busters for the afternoon. We picked up Little Miss from school who was so excited to see us but then immediately burst into tears telling us had gotten moved to yellow that day. We had told her that morning that the best present she could give Big Daddy would be to have no tallies that day, so she was especially upset to have been moved to yellow. The fortunate thing was that her teacher had found us while we were waiting for the kids to be dismissed and told us that Little Miss had actually had a really fantastic day. The teacher told us that all the kids were being a little wild during math time and out of frustration for the way the class was behaving she told the kids that the no one was to touch the props they were using and if they did they would immediately go to yellow. In the teacher’s own words, Little Miss, wasn’t being defiant, but absent mindedly touched the props and then immediately had a look of fear recognizing what she had done. The teacher told us that she genuinely thought it was one of those things where Little Miss just wasn’t thinking, but she felt obligated to follow through with the consequences she had laid out. Once we picked her up we quickly reassured her that we weren’t upset with her and that her teacher had told us what happened. She was SO RELIEVED and it was clear she really thought she would miss out on Birthday festivities. The excitement she showed when we told her she wasn’t in trouble was practically euphoric! Once we were all together we went over to this new local brewery called Elk Mountain that Big Daddy has been dying to try. I’m not much for breweries myself and I really had some hesitation taking a five year old into one, but I have to say it was very nice and a lot of fun, even family friendly! I know Brewery and Family aren’t typically associated with one another, but they had Root Beer for Little Miss and a popcorn machine with fresh popcorn for us to nibble on. They had a bookcase of games which included a Littlest Pet Shop version of Go Fish and we sat there for the better part of an hour eating popcorn, enjoying our beverages and playing Go Fish! It was actually a really nice way to do something grown up for Big Daddy and make it fun for Little Miss also. Afterwards we picked up Big Daddy’s cake and headed home where I made his favorite meal of Pepperoni and Sausage Calzones. We finished off the day with cake and presents just they way every birthday should end!
