Candy Factory

Big Daddy is taking some vacation time this week and next.  He often finds himself getting close to the end of the year and needing to use his vacation days or lose them. That has definitely never been a problem for me.  We thought about planning a trip somewhere, but with the holidays coming up and an anniversary vacation planned for January it seemed more, shall we say, economically responsible to stay close to home.  After looking and finding some really cool activities around town, we decided to take Little Miss out to Hammond's Candy Factory.  They've been in Denver since 1920, but none of us had ever been there before today.  We took a tour and got to watch them making candy canes for Santa.  It was cool to see a big blob of sugar, corn syrup and water turned into a candy cane.  It's amazing to me how simple and effortless they make it look.  I wasn't sure if any of this would hold the attention of Little Miss, but it did!  She was enthusiastic and interested the whole time.  It's not a very long tour, 20 minutes maybe and then we hung out in the candy store/gift shop and bought a few pieces of candy to bring home.  We've started to tease Little Miss that if she isn't good Santa will only bring her a lump of coal for Christmas.  Well, one of the things they make at Hammond's is "coal" which is really black cherry flavored rock candy.  Would you believe THAT was the candy she picked out for herself.  She loves it.  Once again I've been outsmarted by my 4 year old.
